View In:   ArcGIS Online Map Viewer

Name: Sidewalk Ramps

Display Field: comp_

Type: Feature Layer

Geometry Type: esriGeometryPoint

Description: Points within this feature class represent the location of sidewalk ramps collected during the pavement condition survey of spring / summer 2004. Values in the field "Comp_" indicate whether or not the ramp is in within compliance per ADA specifications for pedestrian sidewalk ramp design. An ADA compliant ramp must be 48" wide or greater and meet smoothly with the street surface and have a slope of less than 8%. Factors that will cause a ramp to be rated non-compliant are large cracks, obstacles in the ramp, a slope greater than 8% and unmanageable differences in street and sidewalk height for a handicapped person. Ramp locations were digitized in ArcGIS 8.3 using the 1998/1999 Buncombe County Orthophotography produced at 1:200' scale.
